U14s - 09-07-09 - HOME TO ST GILES
Camden 90 for 4, Sawston 92 for 0, RESULT - ST GILES WIN
A Camden side ravaged by Swine flu, holidays and end of season fatigue took on St Giles at
Emmanuel.
Camden brought some new faces such as Dougie Turner, some old faces such as Robert Backhurst
and Jack Owen and the odd U12 in order to get the game on. In what was always going to be a very
tough game against the leagues stand out team Camden did well to reach 90 using all of their overs.
Recalled Robert batting well with Dougie Turner and Will Thwaites smacking a quick fire 10.
The bowling was where we would have any chance of winning the game and St Giles began taking it apart from
the first over. Their star batsmen ending on 40 odd not out. Good spells from the reliable Callum Traynor,
Dylan Spielman and Luke Fowles weren't enough as St Giles romped home in 11 overs.
Final game against Isleham to hopefully finish off a successful season on a high.

U12s - 30-06-09 - AWAY TO SAWSTON
Camden 71 for 4, Sawston 74 for 8, RESULT - SAWSTON WIN
In near mirror image conditions from last nights U14s game, the U12s were without captain Oscar
Dixon (injured in an obscure ironing incident) so Ollie Hastings stepped in to captain and
proceeded to win the toss and stick the oppo in to field in the stifling heat.
In a game dominated by good bowling attacks Camden struggled to get the ball away and were
on 8 for 0 after 5 overs. Greg Mellor and Harry Connor doing very well to keep wickets in hand with the 2
very good Sawston opeing bowlers. When Greg and Harry got out trying to push on in came Laurie
Fabian and Ali Austin, with some brutal hitting and blatent dis-respect for the Sawston bowling
attack they had pushed the score to 40 off 12 and given us a real chance of setting a decent
target. Sam Walsh and Alex Wilson were the final pairing at the wicket, and with some classy blows
and plenty of vocal encouragement from the boundry from stand in skipper Ollie (take note Andrew Strauss...
"Hit it", "Get some runs" and errrrr "Hit it") we had clawed our way up to a defendable 71.
Cue the mass brawl over the half time bourbons and custard creams.....
Not knowing what to expect after seeing their good bowling attack, Camden took to the field
and opened up with now fully recovered (from chest pains) Ollie (must have been the custard
creams) and Luke Fowles. Both took wickets in their opening overs and both have the likes of Joseph
and Wilf to thank for covering the short boundary and making some good chases toward the away team
family enclosure.
After the opening 6 overs Sawston were well up with the run-rate but were losing wickets
regularly, it was clear that if they stayed in they would get the runs so our best chance was to bowl
then out.
On came Greg and laurie who bowled straight and well, and with the help of some really good fielding
and plenty of enthusiasm in the field, Sawston were down to 45 for 3 off 10.
The stand in skipper then began to ring the changes in a very noble attempt to A. Mix up the bowling and B.
To get a everyone a game, and to his credit it did the job. Wickets fell courtesy of Greg, Sam, Tom Clements
and a fine
spell of 3 overs 4 for 12 from Alex Wilson (including a fine diving Caught & Bowled) and Sawston were
64 for 8 off 15. Game On!
2 overs later and after a fine Maiden over from Sam Walsh, Sawston were on the brink. After being promised
a bowl and then very kindly stepping aside, Joseph let the in form Alex Wilson bowl what was to be the final
over. A nice shot down to fine leg and the game was Sawstons.
Another great game where cricket was the winner, once again we were professional and well organised. A
special mention for sub Wicket Keeper Harry Connor who did a fine job behind the stumps after some last
minute coaching from Greg and with a helmet that was far too big and fell off everytine he dived.
Next up Saffron Walden at Emmanuel, plenty of home support and we can hopefully finish the season
with a couple of wins.

U14s - 29-06-09 - AWAY TO MILTON
Camden 175 for 2, Milton 50 ALL OUT, RESULT - CAMDEN WIN
In the absence of Hugo (injured during a freak hang gliding accident) Chris Tapping stepped in as captain, won the toss and decided
to bat. Based mainly on the searing heat and not wanting to field, it proved to be the correct decision.
After the Prian 'pinch hitter' Davda experiment failed, James Freeman was joined by Chris Tapping and the carnage began. Several
brutal hits and a broken bat from James and 3 of the best shots you'll see all season from Chris later, the partnership had reached 103. James
fell to a good catch at mid-off and Chris was joined by Toby Lawes, who played smartly to give stand-in captain Chris the strike. Chris
continued the on-slaught to finish on 63 not out and with the help of 43 extras Camden had set a target of 175.
A confident U14's team went out to field knowing they would have to bowl badly not to win this game. Will Thwaites bowled fast and straight and
Toby Wright bowled a great line and by the end of their spells the opposition were 22 for 5 with just the small job of getting everyone a
game left to do for captain Tapping. Short but effective spells from Dylan, Callum, Matt and Prian, plus some good fielding, a good
stumping by the ever improving David Dean and a near
spectacularly dropped dolly from Toby Lawes left Milton with just 16 runs off the bat and Camden with their third win of the season
Next up St Giles, and with the way we've played in the last few games and a full team theres some quiet confidence growing that an upset might be on the cards!

U12s - 24-06-09 - AWAY TO NCI
NCI 86 ALL OUT, Camden 89 for 9, RESULT - CAMDEN WIN
Camden U12s have their first win of the season and as your intrepid reporter bites his tounge and tries to remember that the Camden spirit
is to have fun and winning will hopefully be a by-product, all i will say is....im very glad it was against NCI!
Camden bowled first as NCI only had 5 players by 6.15 and began well. Oscar Dixon and Luke Fowles restricting them to 4 off 3. Some great
fielding from Wilf Wheatley (putting his body in the way more times than would be expected by the harshest coach), Alistair Austin at point
and Harry Connor, kept their agressive batters frustrated.
Then came the 'Man of the Match' performance from Sam Walsh. In a time where they were taking control and putting on 10 runs an over, Sam changed
the game with figures of 3 overs, 5 for 17. Bowling straight and with pace he got an LBW, 2 caught, 1 bowled and a very smart caught and bowled.
With help from Luke Fowles returning to take 2 wickets and 2 smart run-outs Camden had kept the 'favourites' down to 86.
With confidence high Harry and Greg strode out to get things underway....then strode back without an over on the board. The worse possible start
as we were 15 for 5 with 6 overs gone. It needed a solid partnership and some help from the bowlers to get us back in the game, it
came in the form of Lorrie Fabian and Alistair Austin. In one of the most composed partnerships of the season, hitting the bad balls and
leaving the wides, they took us up to 51 for 5 and very much back in the game.
When they went in the same way as 8 of the team, bowled, it needed Man of the moment, Sam Walsh, to get us over the line. A combination
of some 50 extars from the very generous opposition and a 15 run partnership from Sam and Luke Fowles, we got there!
As the NCI coaches stood there shocked that they had lost their first game of the season to a team that they 'should be beating',
the analysis began "how did we lose that?". Your intrepid reporter then took him upon himself to announce proudly...."Because we got more
runs than you!!!"

U12s - 17-06-09 - HOME TO GRANTA
Camden 86 for 5, Granta 87 for 4, RESULT - GRANTA WIN
In a closely fought battle, Camden were narrowly beaten by rivals Granta. Several fours and a spectacular six from Greg Mellor saw Camden to a respectable score of 86 for 5. Oskar Dixon put another fine batting performance this week with 27 not out. Oskar Dixon’s high standards were maintained throughout his bowling. However, Luke Fowles was pick of the bowlers with 2 for 6 from 4 overs including a wicket maiden to finish his spell. Granta appeared to be in control until tight bowling towards the end of the match from Sam Walsh, Alex Wilson and Laurie Fabian meant that Granta needed all but 3 balls to reach Camden’s total. A nail biting finish in the cold and dark!

U14s - 05-06-09 - HOME TO CHATTERIS
Chatteris 72 ALL OUT, Camden 74 for 5, RESULT - CAMDEN WIN
It took a game that was on and off more times than a light switch but Camden U14 have their
first win of the season!
Against a Chatteris team that seamed to have more talk than action, Camden again bowled tightly.
After a sluggish start from Toby Wright (probably due to the coaches very lazy warm up), the
opposition never really had a chance to get going and in fairness never really seem to try.
Some good spells from Toby Lawes, Chris Tapping and Callum Traynor and the returning Toby Wright abely supported the
5 for 7 spell by our very own Dylan Spielman. Bowling regular googlies and fast turning leggies, he
at one point had the opoostion umpire opened mouthed at how far one ball turned to get out his batsmen.
Excellent fielding, James Freeman taking 3 increasing good catches and a fine catch by Gwyllam Williams behind the stumps, and plenty of enthusiasm in the field
kept Chatteris down to a very chasable 72.
Hugo Batley and James Freeman began the chase aggressively with 13 off the first over before both
getting out to poor shots, but the theme seem to be set for the remainder of the innings. Gwyllam Williams,
David Dean and Ollie Purnell all came and went playing, and regularly connecting, some big shots
before missing straight ones. It was then left to Chris Tapping and Toby Lawes to very proffesionally
see out the remainder of the innings with 3 overs to spare. Chris casually smacking a cover drive for
4 to win the match in a potentially nervous couple of overs.
All in all a good performance as there has been all season, only this time the opposition didn't have a
star batsmen or bowler for us to contend with. To take from the game?, plenty of good fielding, some positive batting, good
straight bowling and our very own Shane Warne.....for this game at least!

U12s - 03-06-09 - HOME TO THRIPLOW
Camden 105 for 6, Thriplow 106 for 1, RESULT - THRIPLOW WIN WIN
No report supplied
U14s - 22-05-09 - HOME TO MILTON
RESULT - MATCH CANCELLED, NO OPPOSITION
U12s - 21-05-09 - AWAY TO SAWSTON
RESULT - MATCH CANCELLED, NO OPPOSITION
U14s - 13-05-09 - AWAY TO ST GILES
St Giles 123 for 5, Camden 70 ALL OUT. RESULT - ST GILES WIN
A depleted 9 man U14 camden team were asked to field against an experienced and well
drilled St Giles team at Dry Drayton. Will Thwaites and Oscar Dixon were given the task of
subduing the oppositions star batsmen, and did so admirably, keeping the score around 30 off
the first 6 overs. Batsmen were falling at the other end to St Giles top scorer to fine
catches from Oscar Dixon and 2 from Hugo Batley, but it took Callum Traynor in his second
spell to dismiss their opener for 70ish. Excellent and unlucky spells from Prian davda, James
Freeman and Luke Fowles, plus some enthusiastic fielding from the likes of new comer Ollie
Bartlett kept the score down to a very reachable 123.
James Freeman and Hugo Batley opened with confidence and amidst some friendly sledging James opened his
shoulders and began the chase with 2 lofty covers drives. Both openers eventually fell trying to go over
the top and with pinch hitter Prian Davda been and gone it fell to Gwyllam Williams and Callum Traynor to
put something meaningful together. A partnership that gave us a chance with some fine blows and excellent
running, also reminded us that Boxer shorts and a protective box don’t mix as Callums ended up repeatedly
round the back of his knee during many of his and Gwyllams quick singles.
Unfortuantley with the light fading and run rate increasing, the need to push on caused cheap wickets to
be given away. Even with a giant 6 and some brutal 4s from Will Thwaites at the end, the innings was over for
70.
Another fine effort and more positives than negatives to take out of a tough game, but still searching for
that elusive first win!

U12s - 11-05-09 - HOME TO LINTON
Linton 143 for 7, Camden 61 for 7. RESULT - LINTON WIN
Quote Alfie Dixon/Team manager “Another cold, late, difficult night for the U12s at Pembroke”.
Linton were the visitors for the second game of the season and opted to bat when they won the toss.
An opening partnership or 96 set the standard as they went on to get 143 for 7 in their 20 overs.
With some good straight bowling, hard work and long chases in the field,
shining for the home team were Sam Walsh and Oscar Dixon with 2 wickets each.
With a mammoth total to chase Greg Mellor and Ollie Hastings strode out to bat knowing they had to
“get on with it” (quote Alfie Dixon). As was the theme for the whole innings, everybody got themselves
in, got a couple of runs on the board then got themselves out missing a straight one. Camden ending on 61
for 7.
Some positives to take from the game, we used all of our overs so batsmen had plenty of time at the crease
to build confidence and we bowled straight and gave away less extras than the previous game.
Definite signs of a good little team starting to develop and on to Sawston searching for our first win of
the season.

U14s - 08-05-09 - HOME TO ISLEHAM
Isleham - 124 for 6, Camden 64 - ALL OUT. RESULT - ISLEHAM WIN
Pembroke College on a cool, blustery but fine Friday evening was the setting for the Camden
under 14s first outing of the season against Isleham. The pitch and outfield were in pristine
condition as captain Hugo Batley won the toss and decided to field. An excellent effort from
all the bowlers was thwarted by a magnificent batting performance by Isleham opener, Dom Smith,
who carried his bat and bagged 82 of the away team’s 124 runs. Camden’s attack was accurate
throughout. Debutants Chris Tapping with 2 wickets and Dylan Spellman with 3 were
particularly dangerous. James Freeman took the other wicket to fall with his first ball of
the evening. Priyan, Toby Wright, Hugo Batley and Callum Traynor all caused the batsmen
problems and were very economical. Excellent fielding including a fantastic catch by Hector
Wheatley, a sharp stumping by David Dean and excellent chasing by Oli Purnell ensured that
Isleham were restricted to a competitive total.
Camden’s batting was hampered by some fine bowling and marginal umpiring decisions with opener James
Freeman particularly unlucky to be given out LBW when a long way down the pitch. Hugo Batley top scored
with 11 and David Dean and Gwilym Williams weighed in with classy boundary shots, however it was not
enough to prevent an Isleham victory by 60 runs. If the under 14s play to the same standard throughout
the season they will win more games than they lose. A superb effort all round that deserved better than
the record shows.
Match report - John Williams
U12s - 07-05-09 - AWAY TO ABINGTON
Camden - 62 ALL OUT, Abington - 63 for 6. RESULT - ABINGTON WIN
"A windy evening at Abington saw Camden U12's innings opened by a G Mellor and A Wilson stand,
with the openers top scoring with 11 and 9 runs respectively. Later supporting contributions
came from J Medd (7) and L Fabian with a rapid 5 setting Abington a target of 62 to win.
Camden applied early pressure through the opening bowlers Fowles (3-0-11-1) and Fabian (4-0-15-2) followed
by Dixon tying Abington down to 1 run from his 3 overs. Although Abington only scored 16 runs off the bat
the swing extracted by the strong breeze proved a challenge in controlling the extras, enabling Abington
to reach their target in the seventeenth over with 6 wickets in hand."
