About Camden

Cricket has been played by Camden since 1881 and it is the oldest club in Cambridge.

As Cambridge has never had a town or city cricket club as such, Camden has been a centre of cricket in Cambridge for over a century.  Camden Terrace was originally a row of houses in Regent Street, adjoining the University Arms Hotel, and the land belonged to the Earl of Camden. Indeed, the third club president, who lived in Camden House, used to invite Club teams and opponents to tea in his garden between innings when they were playing on Parker's Piece.

Camden now plays on Trinity Old Field, a fine ground with good wickets in a splendid setting, and on other college and school grounds in the city.

Camden has a full complement of youth teams,  three adult teams, and the continuing tradition of a Thursday team which started back in 1931.

Camden runs three adult teams at weekends.  The First XI plays in the Tucker Gardner Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire Premier League, the Second XI in CCA Senior Division I and the Third XI in CCA Junior Division 2 South B.  There is also a Thursday team (The Ranting Badgers), and a Sunday Casuals side which plays friendlies against local clubs.

New players are always welcome. Playing members see it very much as their responsibility to encourage all players to enjoy the game, and get the best out of it in a positive playing environment.

To get involved please feel free to get in touch - club contact details can be found from the side bar.
