31-03-12 - Camden golf day marred by Osborn win
|
The pre-season Camden Cricket Club Golf Day was won by Tom Osborn (top right, middle) on Saturday 31st March at New Malton Golf Course in Orwell. Four teams took part after quite a few had to drop out to play hockey fixtures that were called off earlier in the year due to snow. The team competition was won by 'Going, Going, Bald' (top left) who were made up of James Heywood, Nick Wells and Charlie Walker-Smith. Charlie Walker-Smith also won the closest to the pin. Non-playing member Charlie 'Big Dog' Debenham won the longest drive at the 10th. Another golf day will run at some point during the middle of the season. Watch this space or contact Alex Mutucumarana if you're interested. Below are some pictures of the day. Including the first offical photo of the 2012 captain line-up. Take a good look at it while they are all smiling and still talking to each other! |

For those of you who remember, a young lad called Peter Hanscomb made quite an impression on Camden when he came and played for us
for 1 year back in 2006 Regularly scoring runs and was 2nd XI player of the year at the tender age of 15. Well it turns out he's gone on to be quite good. Have a read of what he's been up to here here & here If you ever read this Peter when you make it to the top of our fine sport i'd like to say one thing from all of us at Camden CC... you're welcome Peter, you're welcome. Our thanks to our overseas reporter Richard Hadley for the spot. |

Fixtures for all teams are now appearing online. Have a look at them, absorb them, appreciate them, but accept that they are

2011 REVIEW
Well, another season has, like a thick edge through a slip cordon on a cold Saturday in May, flashed by...
|
On the field, 2011 proved to be a season of consolidation that saw Camden fail to live up to the high water mark of 2010. All three
league sides avoided the excitement that lurks at either end of league tables, instead making do with the security of mid-table
finishes. On a positive note it was great to see so many youngsters make the step up to adult cricket. Off the field, the Red Bull
and other of the region's fine establishments bore testament to the healthy state of the club, and Ali Khan again oversaw an enjoyable
end of season curry at Cafe Naz where the following awards were dished out with the hot towels and After Eights:

By no means a Kiwi but equally missed will be Alex Raha, not least for his admirable efforts in filling the Margaret Batley shaped
hole in the colts set-up. His enthusiasm, commitment (and cover-drives) will be London's gain and Camden's loss.
Thanks again to all those club officials without whose efforts Camden could not exist, and a number of which have come to the end of their tethers ... erm, I mean terms. David Owen has passed on the Presidency, with considerably less reluctance than when accepting it, to David Mitchell. An enormous debt of gratitude must go to David Owen for stepping into the breach and for all his tireless work behind the scenes. Likewise, thanks to Mark Critoph and David Mitchell who have stepped down as 2nd XI and 3rd XI captains – passing the jobs on to Ali Khan and Steve Robinson respectively. |
2010 REVIEW
Once again Camden CC had survived the economic deline of the rest of the world and 2010 was very much to be declared a successful year!
|
The pinnacle of the year was Camdens 1st XI claiming the Tucker 1 Premier title with 2 games to spare. Captain, Alex Mutucumarana, presided over the team for another year and his end of season speech at the annual awards/curry night was enjoyed by all. Congratulations to them. Once again the awards were given out for the players of the year and the clubman of the year, there were as follows

The 4th Annual Family fun day was again a success with bumper crowds and 4 13 a-side teams all competing for the prize of a firm handshake.
Not put off by England v Germany in the footy (well not after we went 3-1 down), we had the usual Curry by the Raha family, raffle prizes kindly donated and the BBQ, which every year seems to feed all of you without a single death! After our biggest ever colts year, some 40 odd memebers, 3 full teams every week and the U11s winning their league, the awards for players of the year were given out. They were...

David Owen taking over presidency and overseeing the continued growth of the club, Margaret Batley stepping down as colts co-ordinator after many successful years and the original 3rd XI ringer, Richard Hadley, leaving the club to go and live out his life with his wife in South Africa (he'll be back!).
2009 REVIEW

04-09-09 Much Fun (and the annual Rustler joke by Dixon) had by all at the end of Season Curry Night The end of season curry night took place on Friday 4th September at the Curry Garden on Regent street. Some very casual end of season 'dinner' attire was on display from Gavin Ayliffe, and a luminous shirt from Alex Raha, as the captains made their speeches and players of the year awards were presented.

The 3rd Annual Camden CC Family Fun Day was held at Emmanuel College Sports ground on the 12th July.
Camden's Blue Riband event gave Juniors from the age of 9 the chance to play with the first XI opening bowler. A moment proved none more so then when the U12s Most Improved player of the year, Sam Walsh, strode out to to bat with Camdens First XI captain Alex Mutucumarana...and lasted long than him at the crease! A bumper BBQ, busy bouncy castle and a well supported raffle made it a very successful day for the club. Our thanks to everyone who attended and supported the club, especially those who brought puddings, salads and raffle prizes. |

Big thank you's also to Match Ball sponsors Mackays Engineering and Mi Broadcast, and to Mark Robinson for letting us use the Emmanuel ground. Aswell as our very own committee who make everything happen, Martin Baker for sorting out the money, David Mitchell for the use of his Tannoy system and BBQ, Kevin O'Grady for not poisoning everyone on the BBQ, Margaret Batley for arranging the colts attendance and especially our Social Secretary Steve Robinson, who can feel very proud that Camdens Family Fun Day continues to grow into the highlight of the year. |

13th July saw the second annual Camden Family fun day at Fitzwilliam College cricket ground, some obvious improvements were made from its inaugural
year and a successful club member turnout, some favourable weather and the success of the website designers
team made it a truely great day. Our thanks to everyone who played, brought food, cooked, supported and groundsmen Dave Norman.
